Tell us about your restaurant and type of cuisine?
Berhane: We are an authentic Ethiopian continental cuisine restaurant, offering a variety of meals…and we are not a franchise.
Why did you choose this particular cuisine?
Berhane: It doesn’t exist in Botswana and it's very unique & healthy cuisine.
Why did you decide to go into the restaurant business?
Berhane: It is my wife’s passion.
What’s your secret to keeping customers coming in?
Berhane: We serve fresh quality food and don't pre-prep our food. Our customers come for the healthy food and the quality of our food.
What are you most proud of about your restaurant?
Berhane: The environment/ ambience that you see, with an African touch, we designed it and made it ourselves; the water fountain, the statues, etc. And we are proud of our ability to sell healthy food in a clean environment.
We all know service is key. How do you motivate your staff to deliver the highest standard of customer service?
Berhane: It's through training. We encourage them to take up a managerial position and involve them in the day-to-day running of the business so that they know the goals of the restaurant. This helps them contribute in the development of the restaurant.
How often do you innovate on your menus?
Berhane: Every year, but once a year. We don't change menus more often than that.
What are the best ways for graduating students to find a job in restaurant management? How can they best break into the field?
Berhane: It depends on the individual. But, the advice that I can give is that if you don't have ambition, passion, patience and you are not the hardworking type - then don't go into the restaurant business.
Last but not least, why did you sign up for the MyFoodness App?
Berhane: I always want to be on the front line of new and fresh technology to bring the best out of my restaurant and I think this is it.
Thank you, Berhane.
